I am the leader of the server revolution! Taking the power away from the customers and putting it back in the hands of the bartenders and servers. Yelp off!!!
“The customer is always right,” is an outdated phrase that continues to plague restaurants today because some people still feel like they’re special.
Now this entitlement gives these same people the right to steal from restaurants. I have seen people steal salt n pepper shakers, sugar caddies, bar shakers, espresso spoons, and even have had customers offer me money for leather aprons that we used to wear as part of our uniform. If they like it, they’ll steal it.
Here is a recent article I found about the top things stolen from restaurants, including my friend Michael Fiorelli’s place: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-05-31/what-gets-stolen-from-restaurants-everything
And of course, let’s not forget about that time I caught the punk trying to steal a bottle of cheap cab: http://www.joeyrockenstein.com/thebitterbistro/the-cabernet-heist/
The truth is, it’s not going to stop. I confronted a customer one time after I saw her put wine glasses in her purse. My manager said that she could keep the glassware, but that we were going to call the cops. The woman’s defense, “But I want them.”
Entitlement is a bitch.
Until next time… Server’s don’t pay their rent with compliments.
“Bitter. Party of 1? Your table is ready.”
